Another OCAA title for No. 3 Women's Basketball

WINDSOR – No. 3 Humber women's basketball claimed the 11th OCAA title in program history Thursday evening, defeating the St. Clair Saints (11-1, 1st West) Thursday evening, 103-91.

Senior Nikki Ylagan came up huge for the Hawks in the OCAA final, dropping 34 points – including eight-of-15 (53.3 percent) from 3-point range. Miea Campbell-Johnson recorded her tenth double-double of the season on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Sarah Baptie picked up her second double-double for Humber on 12 points and 11 rebounds while Kia Watt finished with 20 points and nine assists in the game.

Humber came out red hot in the first quarter, as the Saints had no answer for the duo of Ylagen and MCJ. Both finished with 10 points in the quarter as the Hawks held an 18-point lead after one.

The second quarter was far more competitive as the Saints pressed Humber on the defensive end leading to seven turnovers in the frame. The Hawks were outscored in the quarter but still led by a comfortable 15 points going into the half.

St. Clair fought their way back in the third, as they brought the Hawks down to just a single possession. The Saints shot 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from the floor in the quarter outscoring Humber by nine, trimming the lead to six with ten minutes to play.

Humber began the final quarter strong, pushing their lead back up to 14 points with just five minutes left in regulation. Kia Watt helped spark the run for Humber in the fourth putting up nine points on 4-of-6 (66.6 percent) shooting from the floor. The Hawks never let St. Clair back within single digits as they held on to take the OCAA Championship game, 103-91.

OCAA Player of the Year Miea Campbell-Johnson was named the championship MVP, while Kia Watt and Nikki Ylagan were named to the all-tournament team.
