OCAA BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE EPIC

TORONTO - The top collegiate badminton players in the province are set to compete at the 2022 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Badminton Championships, hosted by George Brown College at the Epic Sports Badminton Club in Toronto from Mar. 3-5.

Nine schools from across Ontario will send student-athletes looking to bring home gold. The OCAA Curling Championships have been contested every season since 1968-69 with the exception of last year due to the pandemic.

The event will feature student-athletes from College Boreal (Sudbury); Cambrian College (Sudbury); Centennial College (Scarborough); Conestoga College (Kitchener); Fanshawe College (London); George Brown College (Toronto); Humber College (Etobicoke); St. Lawrence College (Kingston); and Seneca College (North York).

In previous seasons student-athletes would qualify for the championships through a pair of regional tournaments but due to the unique challenges around the pandemic, this year’s event will be an open format spread over three days. The championship will consist of men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

The gold and silver medalists from OCAA will advance to the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Badminton National Championships in Edmonton later this month.
