CAMPBELL HEADLINES OCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL AWARDS

SARNIA, Ont. - Sheridan College's Nick Campbell (Brampton, Ont.) was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Year in a ceremony held in Sarnia, Ont., on Thursday evening as part of the 2020 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

The fifth-year player was the West Division Scoring Champion during a regular season in which he averaged 24.6 points per game over 20 contests. Campbell scored an OCAA-best 491 points and was seventh in steals with 41. He also contributed 124 total rebounds and 48 assists. Also named West Division Player of the Year, Campbell is a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian and headlines the West Division First-Team All-Stars.

Dakoda Lewis (Toronto) of Seneca is the East Division Player of the Year. The second-year guard was fourth in OCAA overall scoring averaging 21.8 points per game and shot an OCAA-best 80-of-192 (41.7 per cent) in three-point shooting. He also grabbed 129 rebounds. Also named a CCAA All-Canadian, Lewis headlines the East Division First-Team All-Stars.

Fanshawe's Marko Maletic (London, Ont.) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The guard scored an impressive 19.9 points per game totalling 379 in 19 contests, good for fourth among OCAA players. He ranked third in successful three-pointers shooting 64-of-170 beyond the arch. The West Division Rookie of the Year is also a West Division Second-Team All-Star and headlines the West Division All-Rookie team.

Jamie Girolametto of Redeemer is the OCAA nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year. The West Division Coach of the Year led the Royals to a regular season mark of 15-5, sharing the top record in the West Division, but losing the West Division championship tiebreaker to Humber.

Algonquin's Zerious Loney (Truro, N.S.) is the OCAA Scoring Champion. The second-year forward led all players averaging 25.2 points per game totalling 353 points over 14 games. He also led the league in field goal percentage (64.8 on 118-of-182 shooting) and three-point field goal percentage (57.7 on 15-of-26 shooting). The East Division scoring champion is also an East Division First-Team All-Star.

Bigus Bangoura (Montreal, Que.) of La Cite is the East Division Rookie of the Year. The forward averaged 15.1 points over 14 regular season games, contributing 41 steals, good for seventh across the OCAA. Bangoura headlines the East Division All-Rookie team.

Patrick Kabeya of Loyalist is the East Division Coach of the Year. The Lancers had a record of 15-5 during the regular season, a four-game improvement over last season. Among Loyalist victories were against two teams ahead of the Lancers in the standings, East Division champion George Brown and second-place Seneca.

Chris Fields (Montreal, Que.) is the East Division Defensive Player of the Year. The fourth-year guard was a member of a George Brown team that gave up a league-low 71.8 points per game. Fields was second in steals with 57 during the regular season, also contributing 39 defensive rebounds and five blocks.

Redeemer's Foster Brown (Stoney Creek, Ont.) is the West Division Defensive Player of the Year. The fourth-year guard contributed 60 defensive rebounds, 25 steals and two blocks over 18 games. Redeemer allowed only 81.8 points per game, good for the second-lowest mark in the West Division.

Along with Campbell, West Division First-Team All-Stars include Fanshawe's Alfred Johnson (London, Ont.); Humber's Jaylan Morgan (Brampton, Ont.); Redeemer's Spencer Kerssies (Jerseyville, Ont.) and St. Clair's David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Mich.).

Joining Lewis and Loney as East Division First-Team All-Stars are George Brown's Kingslee D'Silva (Mississauga, Ont.); Georgian's Tyler Vanessen (Whitby, Ont.) and Loyalist's Jeremiah Brown (Scarborough, Ont.).

Joining Maletic as West Division Second-Team All-Stars are Conestoga's Efosa Agbonze (Kitchener, Ont.); Lambton's Jason Watts (Detroit, Ont.); Mohawk's Cudjoe Masuka (Brampton, Ont.); and Sheridan's Jemol Edwards (Brampton, Ont.).

The five student-athletes that make up the East Division Second-Team All-Stars are Centennial's Kyrin Henlin (Pickering, Ont.); George Brown's Haany Ahmed (Richmond Hill, Ont.); St. Lawrence's Ben Lusk (Kingston, Ont.); Seneca's Isaiah Ankra (North York, Ont.) and U of T Mississauga's Zamam Khan (Ottawa, Ont.).

Joining Maletic as members of the West Division All-Rookie Team are Lambton's Kam David (Brampton, Ont.); Mohawk's Daniel Graham (Hamilton, Ont.) and Steven Lemay (Hamilton, Ont.); and Sault's Simon Wal (Windsor, Ont.).

In addition to Bangoura, members of the East Division All-Rookie Team include George Brown's Naseem Barry (Toronto, Ont.); Loyalist's Ebenezer Teklezgi (Toronto, Ont.); St. Lawrence's Tyrell Taylor (Ajax, Ont.); and U of T Mississauga's Nana Osei Tutu Sarfo (Mississauga, Ont.).
