MOHAWK, FANSHAWE, SAULT-2 CLAIM OCAA CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP BANNERS

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling team extended their dominance at the 2025 OCAA Curling Championships, claiming their fourth consecutive provincial gold medal. On the women's side, the Fanshawe Falcons captured gold for the first time since 2019, while the Sault-2 Cougars earned the mixed doubles championship banner.

MEN'S CURLING

The final day of the championships kicked off with the men's semi-final matchups. Mohawk advanced to the gold medal game with a 6-0 victory over the Sault Cougars, while the Humber Hawks triumphed 11-1 over the Fanshawe Falcons, setting up a fifth consecutive gold medal clash between the Mountaineers and the Hawks.

In the bronze medal game, the Cougars defeated the Falcons 8-3, earning their third consecutive bronze in the men's division. Sault jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first end. The Falcons responded with two points in the second, but the Cougars dominated from that point onward, adding two in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth. Fanshawe scored one in the sixth, but conceded to the Cougars shortly after.

The gold medal game saw Humber score one in each of the first two ends for the lead. After a blank third, the Hawks extended their lead to 3-0 with another point in the fourth. The Mountaineers responded with a single in the fifth, but Humber regained a three-point advantage at 4-1. However, Mohawk turned the tide in the seventh end, scoring four to take a 5-4 lead. The eighth end came down to the final Humber rock, and Mohawk survived and added two points to seal a 7-4 victory.

WOMEN'S CURLING

Saturday's competition also began with the women's semi-finals, where the Fanshawe Falcons triumphed 6-3 over the Niagara Knights, and the Humber Hawks bested the Mohawk Mountaineers 10-5.

In the bronze medal game, the Mountaineers surged to a commanding 6-0 lead over the Knights after two ends, with two in the first and four in the second. Mohawk added three more in the third and two in the fourth, prompting Niagara to concede the match.

For the second consecutive year, Fanshawe and Humber met in the gold medal game. The Falcons led 1-0 after one end, but the Hawks rallied with two in the second to take the lead. Fanshawe responded with three points in the third to go up 4-2, but Humber regained the advantage with two in the fourth and one in both the fifth and sixth ends, making it 6-4. In the seventh, the Falcons erupted for four points to seize a lead and ultimately secured the championship with an 8-6 win.

MIXED DOUBLES

In mixed doubles action, the Sault-1 Cougars defeated the Niagara-1 Knights in the first semi-final, while Sault-2 Cougars triumphed 10-6 over the Mohawk Mountaineers, setting up an all-Sault gold medal showdown.

The bronze medal game saw Niagara-1 jump to a 4-0 lead after two ends. Mohawk clawed back, narrowing the deficit to one point by the third end. After the Knights added one in the fourth to make it 5-3, the Mountaineers surged ahead with four points in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. Niagara-1 mounted a comeback, scoring one in each of the final three ends to claim the bronze.

In the gold medal game, Sault-1 took an early 1-0 lead in the first end, but Sault-2 responded with five points in the second and added one more in the third for a 6-1 lead. Sault-1 mounted a comeback, scoring three in the fourth, but Sault-2 answered with three points of their own in the fifth. In the sixth end, Sault-1 scored another three to close the gap to 9-7. However, Sault-2 sealed the win with two points in the eighth end, claiming an 11-7 victory.
