CONDORS HOST OCAA BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS

TORONTO - Valentine's Day is for love and badminton.

Conestoga College plays host to the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Badminton Championships beginning Friday and running through Saturday.

This year's event welcomes an expanded format where 10 Ontario post-secondary institutions will be represented. With the cancelation of regional tournaments which reduced the field to 48 or less at previous OCAA championships, this year over 80 student-athletes are expected to compete.

Five badminton disciplines will be featured, including men's and women's singles, as well as men's, women's and mixed doubles.

Student-athletes will represent Collège Boréal (Sudbury), Cambrian College (Sudbury), Centennial College (Scarborough), Conestoga (Kitchener), Fanshawe College (London), George Brown College (Toronto), Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke), Lambton College (Sarnia), St. Lawrence College (Kingston) and Seneca Polytechnic (North York).

Returning 2024 OCAA medalists include Centennial's Rini Chiu (Markham), Humber's Timothy Lock (Newmarket) and Dhruv Raval (India), St. Lawrence's Maneet Bindra (India) and Seneca's Hedieh Abbasbeiglou (Iran) and Anthony Tso (Markham).

The first four rounds of the competition will take place Friday beginning at 9 a.m. The final round robin round, plus the quarter-finals, semi-finals and medal rounds, will take place Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

The OCAA gold and silver medalists will advance to the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Badminton National Championships from Feb. 27-Mar. 1 in Edmonton.
