SICA REPEATS AS OCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR

OSHAWA, Ont. - For the second straight season, Sydney Sica (Niagara Falls) of Niagara College is the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Soccer Player of the Year. Sica received the award in a ceremony held in Oshawa, Ont., on Friday.

The fifth-year midfielder was the OCAA West Division Scoring Champion, scoring a dozen goals in 10 regular season matches. Sica had four multiple goal matches, including a regular-season high three on one occasion. Sica received other honours as well, including Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian and West Division League First-Team All-Star.

The East Division Player of the Year is Jordan Burke (Scarborough) of Seneca College. The third-year defender played in all 10 of Seneca's regular season matches and was a primary factor in the Sting being recognized as the East Division Best Defensive Team after allowing just one goal against all season. Seneca also ran the table with a 10-0 record to win the East Division championship. Burke received other honours as well, including CCAA All-Canadian, East Division Defensive Player of the Year and East Division League First-Team All-Star.

The West Division Player of the Year is Kaitlynn Russell (Mississauga) of Humber College. The second-year forward scored nine goals in 10 matches for the Hawks as they won the West Division championship with an undefeated record of 7-0-3. Russell also received CCAA All-Canadian and West Division League First-Team All-Star honours.

The OCAA Rookie of the Year is Jordan Blades-McHenry (Ottawa) of Algonquin College. The striker was the OCAA and East Division Scoring Champion netting 14 goals in 10 matches, scoring in all but two games. As well as being named East Division Rookie of the Year, Blades-McHenry is an East Division League First-Team All-Star.

The West Division Rookie of the Year is Niagara's Tori Hultink (Fenwick). The forward played in all 10 regular season matches and was influential in Niagara's 6-3-1 record, good for third place in the standings. Hultink was also named to the West Division League Second-Team All-Stars.

Paul Giannini of Mohawk College is the OCAA Coach of the Year and a nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year. The Mountaineers went 10 matches without suffering a defeat en route to a 5-0-5 record and second place in the West Division. Giannini is also the West Division Coach of the Year.

Evan Phillips of Cambrian College is the East Division Coach of the Year. After a two-year hiatus for the Cambrian women's soccer program as a result of the pandemic, the Golden Shield had an impressive return to play with a 6-2-2 record, good for fourth in the division.

The West Division Defensive Player of the Year is Humber's Remi Pelletier (Brampton). The fifth-year defender was the key cog of a Humber defensive effort that allowed only four goals against during the regular season. Humber was named West Division Best Defensive Team as a result.
