RILETT HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S SOFTBALL AWARDS

KITCHENER, Ont. - St. Clair College's Michaela Rilett (Windsor) is the 2018 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Softball Player of the Year. She received the award in a ceremony held in Kitchener, Ont., on Thursday evening.

The fifth-year catcher/infielder was the OCAA Batting Champion with an impressive .554 batting average. She led all OCAA players with 46 hits, a .570 on-base percentage and .747 slugging percentage. Rilett was also second in the OCAA with six triples. She also contributed 33 runs, 24 RBI and seven stolen bases. Rilett is also an OCAA All-Star.

Nichole Erb (Monkton) of Fanshawe is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The pitcher was fifth among all OCAA players with a 2.73 ERA. Erb has a 7-1 record with 58 strikeouts, two short of the OCAA co-leaders. She pitched a team-high 59 innings. Erb also contributed with a .293 batting average in 41 plate appearances, scoring twice and driving home five.

Durham's Ashley Black (Waterloo) is the OCAA Pitcher of the Year. The fourth-year player was second among OCAA players with a 1.87 ERA and the co-leader with 60 strikeouts. Black had an superb 10-1 record pitching a team-high 71 innings. She only walked a dozen batters. Black is also an OCAA All-Star.

Doug Wiseman of St. Clair is the OCAA Coach of the Year for the second straight season. St. Clair won its sixth straight regular season title with a 20-4 record, an identical mark to 2017. The Saints led all teams with 198 runs scored and .391 team batting average.

Also named OCAA All-Stars were Durham's Emily Glendinning (Plattsville), Kaleigh MacIntyre (Guelph), Alexis Pereira (Newmarket) and Sarah Seifried (Drayton); Fanshawe's Jacey Lochert (Bellwood); Humber's Bonnie Gillingham (Brampton); Mohawk's Shelby Hayward (Hamilton); and St. Clair's Megan Lumley (Windsor).
