CONDORS WIN THRILLER TO ADVANCE TO CONSOLATION FINAL

The Conestoga Condors and the Niagara Knights had an epic battle on Friday afternoon in the consolation semi-final at the 2018 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.

After Niagara took the first set, the Condors rallied to take three tight sets to take the match 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 27-25).

Wesley Lau (Woodstock) led the charge for the Condors posting a game-high 17 kills along with two blocks and an ace.

"It was a hard match," said Lau. "Those guys beat us twice in the regular season and it was a hard fought battle to get the win."

The win meant extra for the Condors as they are playing in their first provincial championship.

"We've been saying every time in the locker room that every game now is the most important game in Conestoga history as we've never made it this far."

The Condors will now move on to face the George Brown Huskies in the consolation final on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

Ben Filmore (Port Dover) was named Player of the Game for the Knights as he posted 37 assists along with six kills and a block.
