JORDAN EARNS TOP OCAA MEN'S VOLLEYBALL HONOURS

BARRIE, Ont. - Fanshawe College's Cole Jordan (London) was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Volleyball Player of the Year in a ceremony held in Barrie, Ont., on Thursday morning as part of the 2018 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.

Jordan was the OCAA West Division Scoring Champion averaging 4.8 points per set. The third-year outside hitter led all West Division players with 244 points and 201 kills. Jordan was a big reason why Fanshawe went undefeated in winning its third straight West Division championship. Jordan is also a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian, as well as an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star.

For the second straight year, Liam Gray (Barrie) of Georgian is also a CCAA All-Canadian. The third-year setter averaged a league-best 10.05 assists per set, helping Georgian to a 17-1 record and a second consecutive East Division championship. Gray also contributed a team-high 22 service aces. Gray is an OCAA East Division First-Team All-Star.

Humber's Dylan Devecseri (Italy) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The outside hitter averaged a team-best 4.0 points per set, one of nine OCAA student-athletes to achieve this mark. Also named the OCAA West Division Rookie of the Year, Devecseri headlines the OCAA All-Rookie Team.

OCAA East Division Coach of the Year Garrett May of George Brown is the OCAA nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year. George Brown finished the regular season in second place in the East Division with a record of 13-5, a three-win improvement over last season. The Huskies also won 10 more sets compared to the previous season.

The East Division Scoring Champion was Xavier Demers (Wendover) of La Cité. The outside hitter averaged 4.6 points per set, accumulating 329 points on 290 kills, 20 stuff blocks and 19 service aces. Demers is a East Division Second-Team All-Star and a member of the OCAA All-Rookie Team.

Centennial's Adam Yu Qiu (Scarborough) is the East Division Rookie of the Year. He was among the top setters averaging 569 assists, or 7.79 per set. Yu Qiu also contributed 51 kills and 24 blocks. He is a member of the OCAA All-Rookie Team.

Redeemer's Brad Douwes is the OCAA West Division Coach of the Year. The Royals finished in third place in the West Division with a record of 13-5, finishing in the top three for the second straight season.

In addition to Jordan, OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars include Wesley Lau (Woodstock) of Conestoga; Jacob Williamson (St. Catharines) of Niagara; Linden Bontkes (Langley, B.C.), Brady De Boer (Petrolia) and Pearson Stiller (Surrey, B.C.) of Redeemer; and Liam Butchereit (Mississauga) of Sheridan.

Joining Gray as OCAA East Division First-Team All-Stars are Georgian teammates Ryan DeBruyn (Ottawa), Darien Haynes (Barrie), Matt Kerr (Wingham) and Keith Roberts (Creemore); Durham's Erik Janssen (Hampton); and Fleming's Erich Perau (Peterborough).

The OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Stars include Mike Liscumb (Ilderton) and Sam Otten (Delaware) of Fanshawe; Rady Kim (Toronto) and Kamyn Wilkins (Brampton) of Humber; Mitch McFadden (Stratford) of Mohawk; Eli Tolkamp (Langley, B.C.) of Redeemer; and Chris Adams (Caledon) of Sheridan.



Along with Demers, OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Stars include Jonah Nieman (London) of Algonquin; Josiahs Fiddler (Elliot Lake) of Canadore; Calvin Yu (Toronto) of Centennial; Joel Howes (Sharbot Lake) of Fleming; Pradeep Bhogal (Mississauga), D'Art Jackman (Toronto) and Ahmed Youssef (Toronto) of George Brown; and Jake Edwards (Barrie) of Georgian.

Joining Devecseri, Yu Qiu and Demers on the OCAA All-Rookie Team are Ryan Carnevale (Toronto) of Canadore; Ryan Clutton (Waterloo) of Conestoga; and Ubert Batista (Panama) of St. Clair.
