HUMBER OUTLASTS CONESTOGA IN QUARTER-FINALS

The Humber Hawks entered their quarter-final matchup at the 2018 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect as the favourites but they found a tough opponent in the Conestoga Condors.

After taking two hard-battled sets the Condors showed their resilience to take a back-and-forth 31-29 third set.

The Hawks were able to push through in the game's final set to win the match 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 29-31, 25-16).

Humber's Kaymyn Wilkins was named the Player of the Game for the Hawks after posting 13 kills and eight aces.

"We stayed together playing as a team always, that's the key to our success," said Wilkins "Now we just have to rest, prepare and get ready for tomorrow."

Humber's head coach Wayne Wilkins like what he saw from his team in a strong battle to start the tournament.

"Kudos to Conestoga and their group they are good and they never give up," said Wilkins. "We warned the guys and I think getting pushed earlier gets rid of some of those nerves, hopefully that will help us zone in."

The Hawks will await of this evening's match between the Niagara Knights and Georgian Grizzlies to see who they will meet in the semi-finals at 8 p.m. Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

Kevin Duong was named Player of the Game for the Condors after scoring 12 kills along with three blocks and an ace. The Condors will now play in the second of two consolation semi-final matches at 3 p.m. on Friday.
