REDEEMER MOVES ONTO SEMI-FINALS AT MEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The opening match of the 2018 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Men's Volleyball Championship was a good game between the West Division Redeemer Royals and the East Division George Brown Huskies.

After splitting the first two sets, the Redeemer Royals took their game to another level to win the next two sets to win the match 3-1 (25-13, 18-25, 25-15, 26-16).

Mitchell Harris (St. Catharines) was named Player of the Game for the Royals after registering seven kills, three blocks and an ace.

"We came out very strong, which is good because we've only been pretty good lately," said Harris. "We've got a lot of weapons that we can lean on. I'm really happy with how we played."

Linden Bontkess (Langley, B.C.) also had a strong game with 12 kills and five blocks.

Redeemer head coach Brad Douwes was thrilled by his team's performance.

"It was awesome, we had a good game plan going in and we executed it to a T. We have a bunch of guys who have been playing a while so we expected it, but we did our job."

The Royals will now move onto the semi-finals on Friday night at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Fanshawe Falcons and Fleming Knights game being played Thursday afternoon.

D'Art Jackman (Toronto) was named Player of the Game for George Brown after leading the team with 17 kills in the contest. The Huskies will be in action again on Friday in the consolation semi-final at 1 p.m.
