EAGLES ADVANCE TO CONSOLATION FINAL THANKS TO 4-0 WIN OVER KNIGHTS

TORONTO, Ont. - The University of Toronto Mississauga bounced back on Friday morning to open day two at the 2018 OCAA Men's Soccer Championship, advancing to the consolation final thanks to a 4-0 win over Niagara.

The first half was sparse on scoring opportunities as the teams got acclimated to each other, but that quickly changed in the second 45.

The Eagles two leading scorers, Jamari Whyte (six regular-season goals) and Zimba Galloway (three regular-season goals) struck within 10 minutes of each other

Whyte (Brampton, Ont.) scored what may be the goal of the tournament - on the rush after an intercepted goal kick, he lobbed a perfectly placed strike from nearly 40 yards out that inched just below to crossbar to give the Eagle a 1-0 advantage.

In the 59th minute UTM gained control in the box, and a Knights defenders aggressive slide tackle resulted in a penalty kick. Galloway (Brampton, Ont.) stepped up to the line and made no mistake, burying in the bottom left corner to double the advantage.

The Eagles would tack two more goals on late courtesy of Deaundre Blackhall (Milton, Ont.) and Andrey Volkov (Mississauga, Ont.) to make it a 4-0 final.

Pawandeep Sandhu of UTM and Jacob Therrien of Niagara were named players of the game.

With the win, UTM will take on the winner of the George Brown-Durham game tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
