SHERIDAN TAKES HOME GOLD AT 2019 OCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

BARRIE, Ont. - The final day of the 2019 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship wrapped up with some thrilling games at Georgian College in Barrie, Ont.

The gold medal final featured one of the OCAA's longest standing rivalries between the Humber Hawks and Sheridan Bruins.

After a tight first half the Bruins shooting took off in the second half of the game as they pulled away to win 86-70. Kahleek Bakari-Whyte led the team with 20 points in the final. For the Bruins it's their second gold medal in the last three seasons. It is the second straight season Humber has earned the silver medal at the championship.

In the bronze medal final it was the Niagara Knights who pulled off an impressive 79-65 victory to earn their first medal since the 2008-09 season and third in team history. Van Hutchison Jr. led the Knights with 15 points and 17 rebounds in a double-double performance.

To start the day, the Georgian Grizzlies pulled off a big fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Redeemer Royals 72-65 in the consolation final. Daniel Martyn was named player of the game for the Grizzlies with a 15-point performance.

Sheridan's Nick Campbell was named as the championship's Most Valuable Player after he earned 15.3 points-per-game at the championship.
