BARRIE, Ont. - Another exciting day of play resumed at the 2019 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship hosted by Georgian College in Barrie on Friday.
The two prime time evening games featured a pair of team's who put together impressive performances with a trip to the gold medal game on the line.
The first of two semi-final matches featured the Seneca Sting and Sheridan Bruins. It was the Bruins who came out on fire out of the gate holding a 27-9 lead after the game's first quarter.
The Bruins knocked off the defending provincial and national champions as Sheridan won the match 84-63. Nick Campbell had an excellent game on both ends of the floor for the Bruins and led his team with 17 points to be named player of the game. Julio Vazquez was named player of the game for the Sting as he had a team-high 10 points.
In the other semi-final it was the Humber Hawks who ran away with a 94-47 victory over the Niagara Knights. Jaylan Morgan was player of the game for the Hawks with a team-high 29 points while Niagara's player of the game was Kevin Cooper who had six points and eight rebounds.
This sets up yet another chapter in one of the OCAA's biggest rivalries as Sheridan will face Humber in the gold medal final at 5:05 p.m. while Seneca and Niagara will play for bronze at 2 p.m.
Earlier in the day the two consolation semi-finals took place. The host Georgian Grizzlies were impressive with a complete team performance to beat the Lambton Lions 110-94. Anthony Meggo had a game-high 32 points to be named player of the game for the Grizzlies. Lambton's Tyrell Peters was player of the game for the Knights with 20 points.
In the first match of the day, the Redeemer Royals had a big scoring performance as they defeated the Fanshawe Falcons 111-81. Elijah Lostracco led the Royals in scoring with 32 points to be named player of the game while Moses Orozco-Rayo was named player of the game for the Falcons with 15 points.
Redeemer will face the host Georgian team in the consolation final at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday.
