OSHAWA, Ont. – In a pitching duel through five innings, the Humber Hawks broke through late to secure a berth to the OCAA championship gold medal game with a 7-0 victory over the St. Clair Saints on Friday evening.
Hawks starting pitcher Brendan Lyons delivered a spectacular seven-inning shutout, striking out nine Saints batters, while allowing just three hits.
Meanwhile, St. Clair pitcher Taylor Pappin allowed just one run through five innings. However, the Saints came undone in the bottom of the sixth as Pappin ended his night allowing four earned runs, while two more were charged to relief pitcher Michael Hamlin.
The Hawks sixth inning offensive outburst saw four separate players record an RBI.
This season the Hawks won their first pennant, which has traditionally been won by the St. Clair Saints. This is also back-to-back appearances for the Humber Hawks program.
They will play the winner of Fanshawe and St. Clair, who meet in the bronze medal game – where the bronze medal is awarded to the loser of the game, with the winner advancing to the final.
